What kind of attitude do you have?  Hopefully, through this challenge, you’ve found yourself being more positive on a consistent basis!  I’ve found that quotes help remind me to be happy & to keep life in perspective.  Below are a couple quotes that I like to read when I feel like things aren’t going the way I’d like…

“It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. If you do your best, it will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. … If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers.” – Gordon B. Hinckley

These next two make me smile.  Try to read them & still stay negative!

“You can be smart and happy or stupid and miserable. . . it’s your choice”.  – Gordon B. Hinckley

“No misfortune is so bad that whining about it won’t make it worse.” – Jeffrey R. Holland

The next time you (or a friend or family member) are tempted to be negative, you can have fun with it!  Write down what is going on, without attaching any feelings to it….simply state the facts.  Next write down both a negative view of the situation & a positive view of it. State both of them out loud (you can even be dramatic about it) & “feel” the difference each statement makes.  Then decide which feeling you’re going to stick with. I’ve done this with my kids & it almost always makes them smile & changes their mood from negative to positive.  When you realize you have a choice…you’ll want to choose the more positive one…it just “feels” better & makes more sense!

For example:  Let’s say you wake up, look out your window, & you see that it’s a cold, rainy day.  You have two choices to how you react…

Negative Choice: “What a miserable day! I wish I could just go back to bed. We have the worst weather here! I wish I lived somewhere else.”

Positive Choice: “I love the sound of the rain! Days like today are perfect for hot chocolate & snuggling up with a good book! I feel so blessed to have a warm home & car….we are so blessed.”

Can you “feel” the difference between the two?  So remember, every time a situation comes up, state both the negative & the positive out loud & then choose which one you want to focus on!  You’ll find yourself laughing at how silly the negative statements sound compared to the positive ones.  Have fun with it!

  1. Hello-

Just wanted to let you know that I am fully engaged in the 30 day challenge. I even got my exercise buddy to do it with me. We discussed the things we are learning this morning. I think that I may need to do this challenge 20 more times! I am learning so much more this go around. So let’s just keep this going! Easy for me to say 🙂 So here is what I am learning about myself. So I have the rubber band on my wrist. I just used a hair tie and it is actually uncomfortable at times. Sometimes I just give in and put my hair back in it. But I have been consistent at wearing it all day and night (except what I just mentioned) and it’s helping me. I tried the slapping my wrist but what has worked better for me is every time I catch myself with an unpleasant thought I look at my wrist and I correct the thought with this “I love myself.” That’s all I say and I repeat it until I feel good about me again. So thanks again sweet Crystal. This is helping me so much. Sorry I don’t comment more. I also really love that I am getting the challenge in my email every day. That is SOOOO helpful.
